Switching

Thinking of switching kiosk software?

Here is a straight account of what ORDRX does, what it does not do yet, and how to try it on a spare tablet without disrupting a single service.

If you already run self-ordering kiosks and you are weighing up something else, what actually helps is a plain account of what the alternative does — not a table of ticks written by the people selling it.

So this page is only about ORDRX. Check it against whatever you are running now, and against the things your venue genuinely relies on.

What ORDRX does

  • Runs on your Square account as it is. Your catalog is the menu — items, categories, prices, modifiers and sold-out state all sync from Square. Orders go back as real Square orders paid on a Square Terminal. More on the Square integration.
  • Kitchen display screens. Kiosk and Square register orders on one board, split across stations, with ageing colours and per-screen clearing. More on kitchen displays.
  • Combos and upsells. Build a bundle from your existing Square items at a price you set, and offer an add-on when something lands in the cart or at checkout.
  • Public holiday surcharge. Flat, percentage or both, named however the customer should see it, itemised on the total and passed to Square. On and off in one click.
  • A receipt you design. Reorder the docket, hide what you do not want, and set the size and weight of each section — including an order number a customer can read from across the room.
  • Per-kiosk menus, terminals and locations. A breakfast kiosk and a dinner kiosk, or one kiosk per location, from one account.
  • Live control. Change branding, tipping, order flow or the menu and every kiosk picks it up immediately — no reload, no waiting for a poll.
  • QR ordering from a customer's own phone, on the Pro plan.

Not yet — but on the way

These are being built. They are listed here rather than left out, because finding out after you have switched is worse for both of us:

  • Promo or discount codes at the kiosk.
  • Open tabs. Orders are paid when placed.
  • Minimum order amounts or per-cart quantity limits.
  • Redeeming Square Loyalty rewards. Customers can earn points at the kiosk; spending them is not built yet.
  • iPad. The kiosk app runs on Android today; iPad support is coming.

If one of these is the thing your venue runs on, ask us where it is up to before you switch — we will give you a straight answer rather than a launch date we cannot promise.

Trying it without disrupting anything

You do not have to choose before you have seen it. Start a free trial, put ORDRX on one spare tablet, and run it through a quiet shift alongside what you have. If your current software also runs on Square, both read the same account — your menu is already there, and there is nothing to rebuild to find out.

Pricing is month-to-month with no lock-in and no GST added, and you can cancel from the dashboard. See the plans.

What moving actually involves

  • Connect Square. Two clicks, and your catalog imports as it stands.
  • Set your branding — logo, colours, welcome screen, order flow, tipping.
  • Enrol a tablet with a six-character code and pair a Square Terminal.
  • Run a shift on it. Keep your old setup running until you are satisfied.

An afternoon, most of it spent deciding how you want it to look. The full walkthrough is here.

Q. Will I have to rebuild my menu?

No. ORDRX reads your Square catalog directly, so the menu you already maintain in Square is the menu on the kiosk. There is nothing to re-enter and nothing to keep in step by hand.

Q. Can I try it without cancelling what I have?

Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it. If your current kiosk software also runs on Square, both connect to the same account — so you can run ORDRX on one spare tablet during a quiet shift and keep trading as normal while you decide.

Q. What is not built yet?

Not yet built, though all are on the way: promo codes, open tabs, minimum order amounts, and redeeming Square Loyalty rewards at the kiosk — Loyalty points can be earned today but not spent. The kiosk app runs on Android, with iPad support coming. If any of those are essential to your venue, ask us where they are up to before you switch.

Q. How long does switching take?

An afternoon. Connect Square, set your branding, install the app on a tablet and pair a Terminal. Most of the time goes on deciding how you want it to look.

Try it on a spare
tablet this week.

Free trial, no card required to start, and your Square menu is already there.
